What a glorious weekend we just came off of. For the first time in a very long while, we didn’t have to be at soccer games (they pick up next week) and although the kids were busy going to graduation parties and events, Marc and I had NO plans.
It is a rare event when the stars line up like that.
With so much free time on our hands, we *should* have painted our porch, cleaned the yard and then mowed it. I should have sorted through clothing to discard what is too small or no longer needed. I should have cleaned out the fridge.
But instead we took the kids who were at home and went to a local ribfest where we sat in the sun, drank beer, and chowed down on our annual serving of ribs. (We love ribs but all of us suffer the next day – even still, having ribs once a year is worth the discomfort.)
We also went to a local micro-brewery that had its grand opening. (Hoo-ray for that!)
And then we came home and read.
And read and read.
As long as I was going to be in the back yard, I figured the babies would be safe free-ranging and so I let them out of the coop and kept an eye on them while I continued with my book. When you rescue littles from pecking adults they tend to see you as an alpha and follow you wherever you go. It wasn’t long before this little gal jumped into my lap for protection. Why hello little lady.
Seriously, a sunny – lazy day, ribs, a few cold beers, and a chicken in your lap.
Life doesn’t get much better than that.
