Lena Waithe Opens Up Re: Allegations Made Against Co-Star Aziz Ansari
Lena Waithe has opened up about the sexual misconduct allegations brought against her Master of None co-star Aziz Ansari.

Back in January, a photographer accused Aziz Ansari of sexual misconduct during a date in an article entitled “I went on a date with Aziz Ansari. It turned into the worst night of my life” for the publication Babe.

Ansari immediately released a statement stating that he and the woman had sex, “which by all indications was completely consensual,” and that she texted him the following day to tell him that “although it may have seemed okay, upon further reflection, she felt uncomfortable.”

Well up until now, we haven’t heard from Ansari’s Master of None co-star Lena Waithe, who is an avid supporter of the #TimesUp movement.

Here is an excerpt of what the Emmy winning writer told  89.3 KPCC’s The Frame:

“Here’s the truth—in every situation, it’s not always black and white,” she said. “And I know that’s simple for people, and it’s easy for people to go, ‘Whose side are you on?’ Like, there are no sides, really, in some of these scenarios. Some of them, there are.”

“We have to start re-educating ourselves about what consent is, what’s appropriate behavior at the workplace. We have to sort of create codes of conduct,” she said.

“But it’s about really sitting with yourself and educating yourself in terms of what consent is, what it looks like, what it feels like, what it sounds like,” she said. “And all of us starting to really act accordingly based on this new information that I think we have now. We all gotta start talking to each other, start educating each other.”
