Hot summer days and cold drinks go hand in hand. This year has been a scorcher and I have been getting creative on making delicious, cold drinks to help cool my family down. Hands down, their favorite has to be my summer slush! It's simple to make, only 3 ingredients and is perfect for summer!
I'm not kidding about the 3 ingredients. All I use for my summer slush is Minute Maid® Lemonade, FUZE® Lemon Ice Tea and ice! During the summer, I purchase a 2 liter bottle or two (especially with in-store Publix coupons like save $1 when you buy (2) 2L bottles) and keep them handy.
I just whip out my trust blender, add 2 parts lemonade to one part lemon tea, plenty of ice and blend!
You guys know I like to keep things simple and honestly, it doesn't get any easier than this lemony summer slush!
Summer and lemonade makes me nostalgic for anything old-fashioned, especially recipes. Growing up, I used to always peer into my great-grandmother's recipe box and read all of her recipe cards. I used to tell myself that one day I would have a recipe box with all of my favorite recipes in my own kitchen. While making my summer slush for my family the other day, I realized I didn't have my own recipe box. Sure, I have Pinterest to get ideas from, but there are some family recipes that are special to me and they need to be kept in a recipe box. I went to my local craft store and purchased an unfinished recipe box and got to work.
I like simple so I just painted my box white. While it was drying, I sat at my computer and whipped up printable recipe cards. I used a red gingham pattern (my favorite) and kept the recipe cards simple as well. I wanted to share them with you also so I created an easy printable you can print out at home on cardstock. These printable recipe cards are a standard 3.5 x 5 size. Just right click on the image below, save and print!
I added a gray ribbon on my box to match my kitchen. This little project took less than hour to put together and now I have my very own recipe box!
The recipe cards fit perfectly and I have already added my summer slush recipe to the box! Maybe one day one of my kids will look into this box and find that they have a passion for cooking, just like I do and just like my great-grandmother did!
This summer slush is perfect for summer get-togethers and the recipe box project would be a great idea for a kids birthday party or wedding/baby shower.
