Leicester Square Landscape, London

By Davis Landscape Architecture @DavisLandArch

This historic square at the heart of London’s west end has been through many incarnations. This recently complete landscape design treats this entire space, building frontage to building frontage, a whole. It easily accommodates the high volume of pedestrians using this space in a clutter free manner. It allows for controlled access for delivery and cleaning vehicles outside of peak pedestrian time. It is detailed in a chunky robust manner suitable for this setting and the ‘abuse’ it is likely to encounter. A ribbon like bench and railings encircle the park at this space’s centre

At the center of Leicester Square the historic park space has been retained. This has been revamped, retaining the Shakespeare Fountain at its center and all of the existing mature Plane trees. Two well used table tennis tables have been incorporated into this urban park space, making reference to the adjacent historic China Town.
