Conrad Algarve Introduces a Brand New ‘Cork Route Experience’
Enjoy a brand new local experience in Southern Portugal with the Conrad Algarve ‘Cork Route Experience’. One of the most unusual local activities in the Algarve, guests now have the opportunity to understand the history and production of cork, developed in beautiful Portuguese surroundings.
Following on from the fantastic success of their family-friendly Clam Picking excursion, 5-star Conrad Algarve has introduced a tour of the Cork Route, tracing through the rugged Serra do Caldeirão. Families will explore fascinating Algarvian rural terrain as they drive amongst beautiful oak groves by 4×4, visiting local villages and learning about the cultural history of cork cultivation to the production of wine corks.
This authentic journey will start at the Sao Bras Museum, for a synopsis of the entire Cork Route, its history and the culture surrounding the infamous cork, providing a fun and educational experience for all the family. This is followed by a visit to the Serra do Caldeirao cork groves, a traditional cork processing factory, a specialised cork shop and a stop-off at the medronho brandy and liqueur distillery, where adults can enjoy a delicious tasting or two. During the day a stop will also be made at a local restaurant to indulge in some authentic recipes, seasoned with traditional Portuguese flavours.
A fascinating, family-friendly day out that will appeal to both adults and children, on this tour guests will develop an understanding of the traditions, landscapes and history of Portugal’s Algarve region.
