Le Petit Chef at Shangri-La Eros, Delhi

By Indian Food Freak @IFoodFreak

Le Petit Chef, the smallest chef, will be making his debut in India at Shangri-La Eros Delhi from June 3, 2023, following successful runs in 41 countries including London, Singapore, Germany, Dubai, and Rome. I had the opportunity to attend a preview of this unique dining experience a few days ago.

You may wonder why he’s called the smallest chef. Well, he’s a digitally created chef standing at a mere six centimeters tall, and let me tell you, the experience of being entertained and served by him was truly unforgettable. It was an hour and a half of dining adventure unlike anything I had ever experienced before.

The evening began with a visit to the club lounge for drinks, which were included in the package. From there, we were escorted to the specially converted main dining hall, exclusively designed for Le Petit Chef dining. The hall consisted of eight tables, each seating four guests. So, if you’re a group of less than or more than four, be prepared to share a table with strangers. It’s similar to going to a movie; you need to book in advance, and arriving late means missing the beginning.

Le Petit Chef came to life right on the tables. He cooked his exquisite dishes with the plates, tablecloth, and utensils serving as a captivating backdrop. No amount of description can truly capture the awe-inspiring scenes that unfolded before us. Unfortunately, my phone camera couldn’t do justice to the spectacle.

The first course delighted our palates with a Truffle burrata. Through mesmerizing 3D projection, it appeared as if the plates were resting on a grassy field while the tiny chef explained the concept of farm-to-table dining.

Next came the delicious seafood bisque with calamari, mussels, seabass and more. Here Le Petit Chef is shown catching some sea creatures for the soup.

Next, we savored the spring chicken roulade, which was accompanied by an animated story that cleverly complemented the culinary experience.

Imagine the excitement when a simulated lobster scurried across the table, just before the arrival of the third course. Though not a real lobster, it set the stage for the lobster thermidor, which was brought to our table by servers donning lobster hats! I never imagined that fine dining could be so much fun!

For dessert, we indulged in a delectable creme brulee with almond biscotti, but not without some dramatic flair. A piece of paper simply vanished into thin air, accompanied by a burst of fire.

No words can truly capture the entire experience. It was more than just a meal; it was an immersive show and a one-of-a-kind dining experience. It blended elements of theater and gourmet dining, creating an unforgettable fusion.

Now, let’s address a few questions you may have. Is the food as impressive as the experience itself, or is it mainly aimed at entertaining kids? Well, the best part is that the food is equally gourmet and outstanding. In fact, it beautifully complements the show. As for repeat visits, it’s a subjective matter. While a great movie might not evoke the same level of excitement when watched repeatedly, Le Petit Chef could consider changing the storyline and animation to entice returning guests. Lastly, vegetarian options are available.

So, I encourage you to reserve your spot, embark on this delightful journey, laugh, celebrate, and let the child within you come alive once again.
