…lay off

...it's the thoughts that count...right?

Oh niche markets.  You have to love them.

They’ve given us so many things we never knew we couldn’t live without–the Magic Bullet, ShamWow, Snuggies (just to name a few).

Now, they have something else up their very sleeves, which are probably attached to a blanket.

Sympathy cards for getting fired.

Sorry, was that shockingly direct and lacking any tact and/or sensitivity?

I have to say that I believe that Hallmark only has the best of intentions, and expects a very small market, with this new line of greeting cards.

I understand that there are moments in life when it’s hard to find the words.  Sometimes that’s a good indication you should remain silent.

This is one of those times.

I understand the desire to let a friend know that you’re thinking of them and there if they need you.

We all have that collection of cards we’ve received over the years, those notes from friends that really meant something to us, and it’s nice to look back and remember those times and those people.

However, what do you think the odds are that the”sorry you got sacked” card is going anywhere but the garbage?

I just can’t see any one scrap-booking that lovely condolences cards they got after getting laid off.

I know, I know, it’s the thought that counts.  It’s a hard time for any one and it’s nice to know that someone is thinking about you.  But does it have to be so brightly colored and contain thinly veiled bitterness?

Write a note, give them a call, send them a text, but this is a moment when Hallmark should not be giving you a hand.
