Police information revealed that a lawyer tried to bribe the officers of the Police Narcotics Bureau (PNB) with a sum of Rs. 10 million to free the two Customs Inspectors who were arrested in connection with an investigation into drug trafficking.
Police Narcotics Bureau officers have informed their superiors and made written submissions in this regard. A senior officer of the Police Headquarters said that the two Customs Inspectors were arrested by the Police Narcotics Bureau officers while rejecting the bribe.
The two Customs Inspectors were arrested on Saturday (10) by the Police Narcotics Bureau with drugs. According to information received by the officers of the Police Narcotics Bureau, a Customs Inspector was first arrested with 11 drug stamps at Chaitya Road in Colombo Fort.
During the questioning of the Customs Inspector, he said that he got these drugs from another Customs Inspector. The second Customs Inspector has been arrested in a room at the port. Almost 2 grams of Kush and 1 gram of cocaine were found in his possession.
In that room, three bags used for sending parcels from abroad to Sri Lanka were also found. According to the information received by the Police Narcotics Bureau, these Inspectors have taken possession of the parcels containing narcotics sent to Sri Lanka as foreign mail items and are involved in selling them. Information has also been received that the father of one of these two officers is a famous lawyer.
