The LA Times reports that the remarkable editor Anne V. Coates will receive a career achievement award from the LA Film Critics. Ms. Coates has been cutting since 1951 and is still going strong; it's mind-boggling to think that the woman responsible cinema's greatest match cut edited Fifty Shades of Grey earlier this year.Concerning the real Lawrence, there's a furor over mining development near his gravesite in Moreton, Dorset. You can read about the dispute here, and if interested, sign a T.E. Lawrence Society-backed petition here.
As a final, self-promoting note, I'm writing a series on Val Lewton every Tuesday this month for PopOptiq (formerly Sound on Sight). You can read part one, covering Cat People and I Walked With a Zombie, here. Be sure to check out their other horror coverage as well.
