Laura Marling has brought forward the release of her new album ‘Song For Our Daughter’ to this Friday (10 April) and shared new single ‘Held Down’. Laura’s seventh solo record finds the supremely talented singer-songwriter taking over the production reins alongside frequent collaborators Ethan Johns and Dom Monks while also experimenting with all kinds of new sounds and arrangements.

‘Held Down’ opens with sonic-infused atmospheric tones that reminded us of Mercury Rev’s classic ‘Deserter’s Songs’ album before Laura reveals ‘I woke up, it was 4 in the morning’ over delicate acoustic strums and then laments the fact her loved one has left her at this time: ‘You know I hate to disappear but the days are short and the nights are getting long’. There’s a hint of ’60s soul in the orchestration that complements  the delicious Tracy Chapman harmonies and bursts of M. Ward-style electric guitar as Laura opens up even more ‘Think about now with my legs wrapped around you, how many times before have you seen me run?’
