Laughing Your Way Through Marriage

By Msadams @HilaryFerrell

As soon as we got engaged, my husband started turning to every married couple we encountered for marriage advice.

It became such a regular occurrence that I slowly started to tune out the advice that we heard.

Most of it pretty trite and unoriginal anyway.

“Don’t go to bed mad.”

“Always say I love you.”

“Happy wife, happy life.”  (You know my hubby loved this one)

Even though we just celebrated our 1 year wedding anniversary, I’m slowly starting to realize that married life is pretty simple if you can learn to do one thing together.

Laugh.

We constantly find ways to crack each other up.

Whether it’s me making fun of my husband or talking in a goofy voice, I’ll do anything to make him laugh.

And my husband is the same way.

He dances around like a total goober and sings songs until he drives me insane.

In fact, my mental picture of him in my head is always of him laughing because that’s what I like to see him do most.

When we aren’t laughing at each other, we always make sure to find the humor in the situations around us.

Take for example that picture you see above.  It was taken at our friends’ wedding (congrats Sarah and Jay) by their photographer.  Somehow, she managed to capture us in one of those moments.

Out of the corner of his eye, my husband saw a friend doing a lip-synched choreographed dance to Miley Cyrus’ “Party in the USA.”   While that in and of itself is pretty hysterical, the funniest part is that he’s a quiet, 4-wheeling off roader, who you would never expect to know Miley Cyrus, let alone the words to her song.

Every time I see this picture, I can’t help but smile and think about how well it sums up our marriage.

We like to take every single moment we can to indulge in some full belly laughter.

It just makes the world a happier place.

So what’s my advice to soon to be married couples?

Make sure you take the time to make each other laugh as often as possible.  Your lives, your marriage, and the world will be sweeter for it.
