Through the history of sarees, as observed from cinemas and magazine (here it is best not to bring in the entire history of sarees as blouses are actually not an inherent partner of sarees; rather the blouse and the petticoat are new additions that can be traced back the British era) we have witnessed various styles and changes brought in by each passing decade in the saree blouse fashion. We have witnessed the blouse of the saree go through massive transformation from its basic form to sleeveless, strapless, full sleeve, backless, high-neck, etc.; most of these changes had to do with the sleeves or the back or front neckline design of the saree blouse. Yet, not much change came to the body of the blouse itself sans the depth of the décolletage, placing of the hooked opening or the choli cut. That is precisely the reason why the latest, more Western influenced, corset blouse style for sarees is like a beautiful revolt in the saree fashion. This style of blouse, if we may actually still call it that, has pushed the saree more towards the genre of gowns. Undoubtedly, the corset saree blouse is one of the most unique creations in terms of saree blouse designs.
What are the Unique Features of the Corset Saree Blouse:
•First of all, the length of the blouse is elongated to, generally, cover the entire belly, this is a major deviation from what we generally associate sarees with, which is the cropped length of the blouse permitting the belly to play peek-a-boo, almost an essential feature of the saree.
•Most corset blouses have the basic feature from the Western corsets which is the boning support in order to attain the desired hourglass figure. Although the Corset saree blouse is far from the classic corset of the West which required the use of steel boning and use of metal.
•The majority of the corset saree blouse are either strapless like tube tops or sleeveless. Although to be fair, they would look great with sheer long sleeves too.
What Type of Saree to Wear with Corset Blouse:
Keeping in mind the exceptional features of the Corset blouse and the fact that these blouses tend to be heavily embellished, they look best worn with plain one coloured sarees. If at all embellishment is desired on the saree itself, it is best to have a narrow decorated border with minimal design all over the saree. Choosing a simple and sophisticated saree would beautifully offset this new style of blouse. This can be clearly understood with reference to the below picture where Shilpa Shetty looking gorgeous in a pure pink silky satin saree worn in the style of a gown paired with a heavily embellished corset blouse. What is different about this corset blouse is that it has embroidered capped sleeves. The plain satin saree with no embroidery or details is a perfect companion to this beautiful blouse.
Actresses looking Fabulous in Corset Saree Blouse:
Since, its arrival a lot of experimental styles have been tried in conjunction with the corset blouse. The Corset Saree Blouse has been worn and flaunted by several fashion forward actresses at gala events and parties. Below is a photograph of Sonakshi Sinha wearing a very traditional Jaipuri chundri Saree paired with a heavily embroidered red corset blouse with gold zari work:
Sonam Kapoor has famously been seen in a variation of the corset blouse in a pale pastel green shade which rocked the fashion world with her Instagram picture. Here, her corset blouse is a mixture of the traditional mid-riff baring length with a sheering or transparent net corset on top with boning around the stomach. Again, she kept the saree completely clutter free with no design or embellishment on the saree itself, thereby keeping the attention glued to her unique saree blouse.
Shilpa Reddy in Stunning Green and Bronze Gold Ensemble:
Shilpa Reddy is looking absolutely stunning in this beautiful parrot green saree paired with a very glitzy corset blouse embellished with bronze-gold sequins all over. This is perhaps the most widely seen picture of the saree worn with a corset blouse in the internet. Here, Reddy kept her saree very elegant as it has very minimal designing on the saree itself. Indeed, to pair this gorgeous blouse with a gorgeous saree would have absolutely turned this beautify into a gaudy piece of attire.
Beautiful White Corset Saree Blouse:
This pristine white saree paired with a corset is one of the most beautiful corset blouse styles out there. The specialty about this corset saree blouse is the intricately detailed cutwork and netted texture of the Corset Blouse.
