I finally ticked off a competitive game at Maiden Castle, with my first visit here since the Newcastle United open training days during the Keegan era. Durham Women looked very impressive going two goals up in the first half, before the visitors pulled a goal back and set up a grandstand finish, with the Wildcats holding on win their opening fixture of the season.

The match was won with two goals within a minute by the two Birtley substitutes, the winner was a terrific Paolo Di Canio style volley.
