What is Intraboom?
Intraboom is a digital workplace platform that is specifically geared towards mobile use. That doesn't mean it's not great on the desktop (we actually really like the desktop version) - it just means that when using it on your phone, it's pretty much in a league of its own.
Intraboom is based around group communication, but it incorporates a comprehensive set of functionalities such as file sharing, task management, chat, and a number of other functions into a single system that fits right in your pocket. Intraboom can be used for any type of team and project communication, so it's much more than just an intranet.
Intraboom promises "no configuration and no learning curve." We gave it a try to see if delivers on its "all-in-one" promise of a simple and easy workplace for your phone.
Intraboom Features
The first thing we noticed about Intraboom is its clean interface. It's very easy to follow. The system's core functionality seems to be an activity feed that you monitor on your Dashboard - it shows you all the activities that involve any groups that you belong to. But you can also filter them by the group if you want to. Using this feature it's very easy to stay on top of things in real time.
Intraboom includes bulletin boards, discussion boards, file sharing, task management, a group calendar and interactive commenting with all of the above. Photo and video sharing are also part of the system, as is IM and private messaging features. One interesting feature that we haven't seen before in these types of systems is group text messaging from computer to mobile.
A feature that we feel warrants a separate shout-out is the file management system that is fully incorporated and extremely well-organized on Intraboom. The system seems to eliminate the need for using any other file storage systems and gives everyone access to files on the go. This is very convenient, especially because there is no need for integrations.
What Problems Does Intraboom Solve?
Intraboom does a good job of bringing communication and materials into one place where they are easy to find. The discussion boards also do a good job of reducing emails. We noticed a significant drop in internal emails during the week when we were trying out the system.
Another thing we noticed is that since most of the communication is public to everyone in the group, and anyone can comment on anything, Intraboom increased internal awareness on ongoing projects. People also seemed more active in taking part in discussions. This was probably due to the fact that everything was accessible on mobile.
