Last night, I went to see Nouvelle Vague, a French band that covers 1980’s punk songs in bossa nova style. I coveted the dresses they wore, of which there were many. One in particular—a black, backless leotard number, with a tutu—is my new fantasy birthday dress.
The band in person was really entertaining. They all had great voices, and they danced all sexy-like. I was like, mmm, you keep on saying, “no, oui,” which seems like pandering to us foolish Americáns, but I still like it.
In recordings, their music is pretty fucking boring (sorry, fans, it all sounds the same). But in person, with the dresses and the puckering and the sexy leotards, I was really into them.
My favorite song they played? The Dead Kennedy’s “To Drunk To Fuck.” But I also really liked “I Just Ride My Bicycle,” because it was JUST SO TOTALLY ME.
