Last Chance: The Final Hours of 40 Under 40

By Americanart

The E-waste Project was inspired by discarded electronic equipment at an e-waste recycling center. Although this piece was assembled by hand, it was designed in a computer-aided drafting program and all the pieces were laser cut. The concept is to create a link between manufactured products and manufactured art. It poses the question, “Does the art lose value if it is made by a machine?”

40 under 40 artist Christy Oates' work questions the boundaries between art and manufacturing. This afternoon she gave a talk today about her innovative, laser-cut plywood furniture. The video above shows her in action.

This weekend is your last chance to see 40 under 40: Craft Futures at the Renwick Gallery. Working with these forty talented artists has been incredible over the last few months, and we'll be sad to see the exhibition go. We hope you'll find the time to visit over the weekend!

40 under 40: Craft Futures is on view through Sunday, February 3, 2013.
