Landscape Stewardship at Dwell on Design New York

How do landscape architects view the future of conservation and stewardship, from both a large-scale, civic perspective and a citizen level? Internationally renowned landscape designer Margie Ruddick, winner of Smithsonian's Cooper-Hewitt National Design Award, joins Hank White, a landscape architect who has garnered countless awards and accolades for his work on projects as diverse as the New York Times Lobby Garden to the reclamation of Staten Island's Waterfront, for conversation and lively debate at Dwell on Design NY. Stewards of Landscape takes place at Dwell on Design New York on October 9 from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. Hank White and Margie Ruddick lead the discussion and share their forward-thinking approaches to shaping landscapes—everything from underutilized civic areas, to restorative greenspace, to environmentally sensitive retreats. Ruddick, whose award-winning design for Queens Plaza is shown here, has pioneered a concept of rewilding cities. "The idea is that 'wild' landscapes—landscapes that have a certain amount of healthy disorderliness or mess—are not only good for wildlife habitat and the health of the planet, but for our souls as well," she says.
