Landscape Irrigation and How It WorksA good landscape can make or break a lawn. This makes the difference between a boring yard and one that you can be proud of. It is about planting trees, shrubs, flowers, and plants in an organized and artistic manner. After going to the trouble of landscaping the lawn and installing an irrigation system, the lawn must be properly and regularly maintained.
Landscape irrigation is a watering system that is used in the maintenance of lawns, gardens, and landscapes. The primary function of this system is to ensure that water is spread evenly and thoroughly throughout any given landscape. A word of caution, though, if you live in the American Southwest or other dry regions, as such places are prone to drought or low precipitation: Better check local laws to find out if you can install a lawn irrigation system.
Whether you have a basic or advanced system, irrigation systems distribute the right amount of water at the right amount of time in the right places, which is vital to lawn care and maintenance. The type of irrigation system suitable for a lawn depends upon a number of factors, such as the size of the lawn, geographical location, underground utilities, environmental regulations, and type of plants in the garden.
There are four basic types of irrigation systems. These are underground lawn, drip, mobile, and overhead irrigation systems. The traditional underground lawn or spray mn irrigation system is one of the most common. This system comprises pop–up sprinkler heads and automatic timers. These work best for lawns, flower and vegetable gardens, and areas that are regularly shaped.
Drip mn irrigation systems are commonly used for flower and vegetable gardens. This system can be as simple as installing an overhead piping with tiny holes in it to allow water to drip at a steady rate. Drip systems are considered by some to be more cost–effective and an environment–friendly alternative to sprinkler systems that tend to waste a lot of water.
Lastly, mobile systems are preferred for irrigating lawns, while overhead mn landscape irrigation systems are suitable for vegetable and flower gardens. The mobile system makes use of standard garden hoses and consumer–grade sprinklers which should be moved and reconstructed periodically. Meanwhile, one of the benefits of an overhead irrigation system is that it does not alter the appearance of the garden. Thus, there are no protrusions on the earth, and trenches do not have to be created.
