Elizabeth Powell’s Land of Talk have announced details of new album ‘Indistinct Conversations’ (out on 15 May via Saddle Creek – pre-order) and shared new single ‘Weight of That Weekend’. Elizabeth says the song ‘is a recognition of having been on the receiving end of a lifetime of sexual coercion, assault, boundary violations, and subsequent gaslighting. The song is a prayer for a lightness of being. A prayer for capital ‘L’ Love.’
While the alt-indie sound falls somewhere between Soccer Mommy, Pavement and Fiona Apple going DIY, Elizabeth looks back on the appalling way she has been treated (‘acting like I never got scared’; ‘eyes wide I let it go too soon’) before examining how one heavy weekend (‘I’m not sleeping, the weight of that weekend’) made her see the light and look towards better things: ‘This is a prayer for love. Holy water, house of pain, I’ve come through slaughter to swim again’.
