Lalbagh Biannual Flower Show – a Display Teeming with Life and Beauty

It is that time of the year when Bangalore gears up to witness Lalbagh’s biannual flower show. Arguably one of the best lung spaces in the city, Lalbagh Botanical Garden dates back to the 19th century and is one of the most popular attractions of Bangalore. Lalbagh flower show is held in honor of Republic Day in January and Independence Day in August each year and this one is the 213th edition of the show.

A tradition since 1912, this ten day extravaganza is organized jointly by the Department of Horticulture and Mysore Horticulture Society and is held in the iconic glass house of the garden. Before the construction of the glass house, the flower show was held in Lalbagh’s Bandstand. With fascinating themes each time, this one is a must visit if you are a lover of flowers, nature and natural beauty.

While the last show was dedicated to late Kannada actor Puneeth Rajkumar, the theme this year is the history of Bangalore. Here are some captures from the show that is on till 29-January-2023.

The show traces the history and development of Bangalore and one can witness models of monuments like Tipu Sultan’s Summer Palace, Kempegowda Towers, High Court Building, Begur Inscription, Vidhana Soudha etc.

The flower decked rockets which are an ode to ISRO are a treat for the eyes.

Apart from this the garden is filled with a display of flowers, fruits and vegetables. A riot of colours, the display is stunning to say the least.

The flower show is a great way to spend some time in the midst of nature while soaking in the history of namma Bangalore. The show is open from 9.00 am to 6.00 pm and there is an admission fee of INR 75 and 25 for adults and children respectively.
