Kuyakoy and 10 Other Baby Tricks Pinoys Learned From Lola

By Milastolemyheart
My mom always ask Mila to do "Close Open" even when she was just newly born. I notice too that when we meet other Lolas, they ask Mila to do any one of the tricks listed below like it's something all babies are born knowing. I guess it's because during their time, these are what they teach their babies.
Peek-a-Boo

Eat Bulaga - aka It-Bulaga or Peek-a-boo. Lola covers her eyes or hides face saying "Iiiiiiittt" for as long as she's "missing". Then suddenly, magically pops into view shouting "Bulaga"! Then it's baby's turn to hide.
Close Open - Baby closes and opens hands while lola holds it up high for everyone to see, chanting Close Open,  Close Open.
Kuyakoy - Babies seat in between Lola's legs in a way that those darling little legs are hanging so they can swing them in alternate directions to the tune of Lola's Kuyakoy beat.
Alayn - Lola slowly moves pointer finger closer to baby until the tips of Lola and baby's index fingers "align". Babies can do this themselves with both hands too.
Flying Kiss - Baby covers mouth with her hand to kiss it then points to Lola to send it flying. No kissing in the mouth so flying kiss it is. Mmmmwah!
Beautiful Eyes - varies with each baby but generally has cutie batting those long lashes. Melts Lola's heart each time.
Wave - Hi, hello, bye, notice me please. They all warrant for a wave. Hands up, moving to and fro. Or for some babies, just throwing hands and arms on all directions.
Arimunding-munding - A version of the wave but more like a beauty quuen or a royalty. Lola again holds hands up high for viewing pleasure while singing, what else, "Arimunding munding munding. Arimunding munding munding".
Clap - Put hands together to make a sound, accompanied by a Yehey!
Apir - aka high five. A version of clap but baby smacks hand with Lola high up. Good job!
Recognize them? My mom still teaches Mila these baby tricks and it had been their way of bonding when she visits. Most modern parents may find them funny or obsolete. If you would look at them closely though, these are simple plays that helps with baby's development. These help improve their hand and legs control. Alayn requires fine motor skills to master. Social skills are practiced with each flying kiss and wave. They learn the concept of object permanence playing eat bulaga. Almost all of these comes with an accompanying song to get their interest and help with listening skills too. Babies feel proud and encouraged to learn more when they get an apir or a clap. And lolas' eyes light up with pride too!
Does you baby know these tricks? What other "old school" tricks their lola though your baby?
