Kristin Bauer Van Straten Says Goodbye to True Blood

Posted on the 26 June 2014 by Thevault @The_Vault

Kristin Bauer van Straten is one of the most popular stars on True Blood. Her character Pam has had some of the best one liners in the show and Pam’s “I don’t give a damn attitude” has made her a fan favorite, too. In a recent interview with FrontiersLA, Kristin chats about True Blood before the end descends on us. Read part of that interview below:

Premiere Of HBO's
FRONTIERS: What parts of this new season are you most excited about?
KRISTIN BAUER VAN STRATEN: I am so happy with this season. I can’t get too specific, of course, but I feel like the characters are true to their core but also challenged. That makes for great viewing.

F: What’s the biggest challenge with playing a character who isn’t always a positive role model?
KBVS: Over the years I’ve come to see Pam as a positive role model. [Laughs] I feel like the writers have given me enough of Pam’s soft side and backstory to make her understandable. She came from a harsh time to be a woman, especially one without means. She’s the ultimate woman’s libber. She’s so independent and self-reliant, and also incredibly loyal to those she feels deserve it. She just feels Eric [Skarsgård’s character] is one of the only people who deserves it. She’s harsh, but she also says what we’re all thinking.

F: What are you going to miss most about playing Pam?
KBVS: It’s been fun playing such a strong woman. I have lesbians come up to me often and say, “It’s so good seeing a gay female character who dresses well.” [Laughs] I didn’t know this was something that was needed, but I’m very happy in those shoes. Literally. The main thing I’ll miss is hanging out with this particular group of people on this particular set. It’s been lovely. I think it comes from the top down. HBO is an incredible network, and they hire the most creative people and they just let them create. The other thing I’m going to miss, on an acting level, is the variety of emotions I’ve gotten to play. I’ve seen her vulnerable side, her loving side, her slutty side, her strong side. I get to do everything as an actor in this role. And, I get to do it with Alexander Skarsgård.
