Pamela Sywnford de Beaufort is on a mission to find her maker this season on True Blood. At the end of season six, Eric Northman (Alexander Skarsgård) left his progeny for the mountains of Sweden. Pam’s portrayer, Kristin Bauer van Straten recently chatted with Zap2it writer Terri Schwartz about her character’s journey and says that so far this year, she has been very satisfied with what’s happened:
“I feel satisfied as an actor this year — and I have every year — that I got to do all the things that I got to do. It’s ‘True Blood,’ and if we didn’t see these characters go through everything we watched them go through, which is so difficult, you want everyone to be happy but it might be really boring. I can’t say that the fans will be bored, that’s for sure. There’s definitely a roller coaster ride in store.”
In terms of the actual storyline for Pam, things don’t really start happening until episode 3. The character experiences a “slow burn” according to Bauer. But there’s a big pay off for fans in the form of flashbacks. It looks like we might be seeing more of Pam and Eric’s backstory which we saw a part of in season 5:
“We find out a lot more about Pam, we have some great flashbacks, and those are really, really fun for us. We want to know as much as the fans what our backstory is. I had a wonderful year and worked a lot of hours, more than I usually do, so I’m really happy about it. The information that we do get in the flashbacks about Pam are the huge, huge forks in the road that we’ve taken for granted that we didn’t know about Pam.”
With new flashbacks comes costumes. Pam has had many memorable wardrobe choices in the last seven seasons. While the actress remained tightlipped about her flashback wardrobe, she did reveal that she had the opportunity to go back through past wardrobe choices including the outfit that had distracted Sam Trammell (Sam Merlotte) in their only Fangtasia scene together. The red sequin onesie had mesmerized Trammell on set and when Kristin saw it again she completely understood why.
As for playing Pam, Bauer says she feels incredibly lucky to have the opportunity to have done so. Not only does she have this great personality with a penchant for great one-liners, but Pam has also shown great vulnerability and loyalty in seven seasons:
“…We’ve also gotten to see her vulnerable side, which only comes out in regards to Eric. We’ve got this well-rounded person who I feel like we’ve all grown to love, and not see her as just a b**** but loyal, and also she only says what we’re all thinking. She just doesn’t care. I think that’s why she’s so enjoyable.”
