Melorheostosis also known as Leri Disease, is not cancerous, but can result in severe limitations including chronic pain, immobilized muscles, tendons, ligaments and limb, hand and /or foot deformities. About 1 in 1,000,000 people of both sexes are affected. Approximately 400 cases have been reported.
To diagnose Melorheostosis, bone scans have proven beneficial, but X-rays are the preferred diagnostic tool because it show a pattern of thickened bone that gives the appearance of “dripping candle wax”.
