DPRK state media reported on 12 February (Wednesday) that Kim Jong Un (Kim Cho’ng-u’n) visited the sport bullet factory and Meari Shooting Range. Attending the visit were Gen. Choe Pu Il (Minister of the People’s Security) and Ma Won Chun (Deputy [vice] Director of the Korean Workers’ Party [KWP] Finance and Accounting Department). Kim Jong Un’s last observed appearance was his attendance at a photo-op with participants in a conference of agricultural subteam workers.
First, Kim Jong Un toured the sport bullet factory and was briefed about production, research and development. He “noted the successful remodeling of the factory in a modern way requiring high science and technology in a short span of time is another proof of the validity and great vitality of the WPK’s line on building self-supporting national economy. According to KCNA he was “pleased that the interior and exterior of the factory have been built up very successfully to be impeccable as required by the design approved by the party” and “expressed satisfaction at the factory which has become an icon factory to be proud of.” He also “highly praised the builders for successfully remodeling the factory in a short span of time.” Kim Jong Un toured a shooting gallery located below the factory. He said that “in order to improve the quality of sporting bullets it is necessary to direct primary efforts to scientific researches, robotize the production processes and steadily raise the technical skills of employees” and he “underlined the need for the officials and employees of the factory to successfully manage the newly remodeled factory and keep the production going at a high rate with the pride and honor of working at the factory, a foundation for developing the defense sports.”
Next, Kim Jong Un toured the renovated Meari Shooting Gallery. According to KCNA he said “with a broad smile on his face that he felt as if he were at a hotel as the designing and construction of the gallery were ensured on a high level and its logo has also been designed in a peculiar manner” and he “was pleased with service facilities including several modern shooting ranges, archery grounds, video-game facilities and restaurant successfully built as intended by the party.” Kim Jong Un instructed officials ”to start service in March after making full arrangements for operating it” and “he noted when the gallery is open, the visitors would be pleased very much.” He also said that “it is an important work for thoroughly implementing the behests of leader Kim Jong Il (Kim Cho’ng-il) for promoting the cultural and emotional life of the people to successfully manage and operate the gallery” and he provided instructions “for operating the gallery on a regular basis.”
