(Seoul) Kim Yo-jong, the sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, said on Friday that she did not see the point a new summit with the United States unless “a decisive change” on the part of Washington.

If a summit took place, “it is too obvious that it would only be used for boring boasting” on the part of “someone “proud,” Kim Ko-jong, who has established herself as one of the most powerful figures in the reclusive regime, told North Korean news agency KCNA.

Kim Jong-un and US President Donald Trump met for the first time in 2018 in Singapore but negotiations have stalled since the fiasco of the second summit in February 2019 in Hanoi.

This failure was caused by disagreement over the concessions that North Korea would have to make to alleviate the heavy international sanctions that weigh on it because of its nuclear and ballistic programs prohibited by the UN.

M. Trump said this week that if he believed “it would be helpful,” he would “certainly” meet with Kim again.

“We don't need to sit at the same table as the United States right now,” said Kim Jong-un.

Denuclearization, she added, “is not possible at this stage” and can only be done with “important measures and simultaneous ”from the other party.

Claiming to speak personally, she stressed that she was not referring to the lifting of sanctions.

Washington owns 28 500 soldiers stationed in South Korea to protect this country from its northern neighbor.

The United States also has many military assets in Japan and the Pacific region.

Pyongyang insists that its nuclear power is necessary to guard against a possible American attack.

In December, Mr. Kim declared the end of his moratorium on long-range ballistic missile tests.

Pyongyang has repeatedly declared that he does not want to continue his talks with Washington until the United States renounces its “hostile” policy.
