Plot: This is the story of a young witch, named Kiki who is now thirteen years old. But she is still a little green and plenty headstrong, but also resourceful, imaginative, and determined. With her trusty wisp of a talking cat named Jiji by her side she’s ready to take on the world, or at least the quaintly European seaside village she’s chosen as her new home.
Verdict: Beautifully Told Story
Story: Being a much simpler story than many of the Studio Ghibili tells this one focuses on believing on who you are, finding the faith you lose for a passion and treating people with respect. Our heroine Kiki struggles in the new city but when someone gives her a chance she gives everyone a chance, but too many people took things for granted an amazing foreshadowing for today’s world. The story does seem to end abruptly which is my only negative with it. (8/10)
Character Review
Kiki: the young witch who enters a new city trying to find a place in a need of a witch, she struggles when she first gets there due to everyone being too busy for their own good but once she starts her deliver business she discovers the good and bad in the people in the city. (9/10)
Ursula: An artist who like Kiki struggled with her talent development and a loss of passion but she teaches Kiki how to re-find that lost passion. (8/10)
Jiji: Kiki’s sarcastic cat who has plenty of funny lines, he is also wise in communicating with other species. (9/10)
Tombo: A young boy who takes an instant shine to Kiki and puts in the extra effort to get to know her better. (7/10)
Osono: A baker who took a chance on Kiki who gives Kiki a chance to work for her in return for room a board and a chance to start her own business. (8/10)
Director Review: Hayao Miyazaki – The master of animation who can do no wrong in the animated film world. (9/10)
Adventure: The adventure young Kiki goes on is beyond belief for someone her age. (8/10)
Animation: Brilliant animation from the master. (10/10)
Settings: Beautiful city created to show the difference in culture between the world Kiki comes from and goes too. (9/10)
Suggestion: This has to be another I think people should be watching it is so beautiful told and can eclipse most Disney films. (Watch)
Best Part: Kiki’s first delivery.
