The controversy of whether is it morally right or just plain out wrong to put a child on a leash has been going on for years. While some people strongly disagree with the concept of putting his or her child on a leash, other people think it’s a great idea. Personally, I do not agree with the idea of restraining one’s child to a leash but that is just the way I have been raised to think. If, however, someone were to have a neutral opinion towards kids on leashes he or she would probably look at both the pros and the cons of a leash to form an opinion, so let’s do just that.

The cons of placing one’s child on a leash include, but are not limited to, the negative attention he or she will most likely attract from the surrounding population. Using a leash will put one’s child in the spotlight so people tend to be watching and judging your child, and probably your parenting, based on the leash, and “some parents may feel uncomfortable about the extra attention generated by using leashes.”

On the other hand, some people find pros in using a leash on his or her child. Some parents find a leash is less restraining than keeping kids cooped up in a stroller all the time, they also decrease the chance of their child wandering off so the parent does not have to worry as much, they could also prevent injuries from occurring.

Therefore, as one can see, there are both pros and cons to restraining one’s child to a leash. As previously stated, some individuals strongly agree while others strongly disagree, either way it is best to have an open mind because you never know what each individual situation may be and everyone is different, so what might be right for one person may not be right for someone else.
