If the quality of guests that an artist can get on his album are an indication of their talent, then without even listening to The Chase – the phenomenal new album by producer Kid Tsunami – we would be pretty damn sure that this dude has massive skills.  The emcees who have come along to lend their rhymes over his tight production range from simply awesome (Sean Price, Pharoahe Monch, J Live, Jeru the Damaja) to downright legendary (KRS-One, Masta Ace, Kool G Rap, Kool Keith, Sadat X).   And while a line-up of such big names can often come off as a bit of disappointment due to high expectations, The Chase is pure old-school hip-hop joy from start to finish.  Kid Tsunami’s beats and production are soulful and tasteful, and are filled with loads of great breaks, samples and turntable antics.  Best of all, there is a cohesive feel to the album – the tracks don’t feel like they were just thrown together, but instead the album flows perfectly even with a different rapper or rappers showing up from one to the next.

Check out the killer “Twothousand40 feat. Masta Ace” and “BANG Exclusive feat. Sean Price with Chuck Chilla on guitar” (which has to be one of the best hip-hop tune of the year so far) below and if you love the boom-bap of old-school hip-hop then jump all over this album.  Grab a copy here.
