That is why the Technology Association of Louisville Kentucky (TALK) has taken the mantle to ensure their young ones are in the loop.
A Much-Needed Initiative
The Technology Association of Louisville has taken the initiative to ensure that local teenagers understand the dark web, cryptocurrencies and blockchain.
These are undoubtedly the most significant topics on the internet today, and their influences can only grow larger.
The need for such an initiative has been informed by the tremendous effect that these aspects have on people's lives, while they may not understand exactly how they work.
Cryptocurrencies, for instance, have dominated any conversation regarding currency trade.
Similarly, government institutions are running up and down trying to incorporate blockchain technology into their systems.
The dark web, on the other hand, is the single biggest headache to law enforcement agencies today.
Criminals propagating all sorts of crimes have moved there to do their operations under the clock of anonymity.
It would be detrimental for any society that has access to the internet to remain ignorant about these subjects.
TALK seems to want to be ahead of the pack in spreading awareness of these concepts.
Empowering the teenage generation with this knowledge now will ensure they can keep up with technology trends.
Knowledge about the dark web will enable them to come up with insight on how to positively use it and eliminate the notion that is a bad thing.
In July, TALK plans to hold the first cryptocurrency summer camp for high school students. It will be a week-long summer camp.
The discussions in the summer camp will revolve around blockchain, the dark web and the ethical interactions in these platforms.
What's in It for Camp Participants?
This kind of drive will give the participants relevant insight into the dynamics of various aspects surrounding cryptocurrencies such as cryptocurrency trading, mining, smart contracts, ICOs and altcoins.
It will also educate them on matters of law and cybersecurity.
They need to understand what is legal and what is not, as the state and federal laws are concerned. Many cryptocurrency dealers encountered problems with the law. Cybersecurity is of utmost importance too.
Today, most dealings and transactions have moved online. The dark web is a particularly notorious source of security breaches.
Arming the young Louisville residents with the ability to anticipate and override breach attempts is necessary.
The camp will be held from Monday, July 9 through Thursday, July 13 at Crypto Consulting Group. There will be a matriculation ceremony held on Friday.
The Monday to Thursday camps will be running from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. everyday, while the Friday event will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
The charges are $300 per head, and all high school students and first-year college students are welcome.
TALK's Role in the Broader Demand for Awareness & Education (Writer's Opinion)
The Technology Association of Louisville is a non-profit organization of technology professionals that educates youth on various matters affecting the society.
They help them network professionally and drive technology advocacy into multiple quarters at the state and national levels.
They seek to empower younger generations by developing their skills and professional capacity. The planned initiative seems to be a noble endeavor.
There should be more deliberations such as this one, to drive more knowledge into the young generation to avoid the chaos that is being witnessed about the said topics.
For instance, many people are venturing into cryptocurrency trading with prospects of making a kill, without understanding exactly how it works or what the future holds.
I believe a majority of the effects the dark web is having on society are fueled by lack of knowledge. Darknet criminals take advantage of the naivety of the users.
Such awareness efforts as TALK's will go a long way in ensuring the internet remains the good thing that it is, by eliminating the chaff.
