David writes…
Nicholas Roe, in his magisterial new biography of Keats, pays glowing tribute to Jean (for those of you unfortunate enough never to have met her, see our Jean page here). She'd have been so pleased.
Roe describes her as a "stalwart of Keats family research".
"Jean Haynes patiently answered my many questions about the Keats family; her knowledge, gained over long years of first-hand research in parish registers and other records, has been most generously shared."
To make a wonderful connection, it's supremely appropriate that Roe's remarks have come out now, in autumn, "season of mists and mellow fruitfulness" (as Keats put it in what is arguably the most perfect line he ever penned).
