Keeled Scales signing Katy Kirby has shared the video for new single ‘Traffic!’ ahead of the release of her debut album ‘Cool Dry Place’ on 19 February next year. The Texas-based singer-songwriter specialises in artful and melodic pop that will slot nicely alongside Hop Along and Mitski in your record collection.
While the album draws upon themes of late capitalism and disintegrating relationships, ‘Traffic!’ projects some (arguably false) sympathy toward a character absorbed who becomes absorbed in his own self-inflicted misery. Katy repeats the words ‘nobody has it better than you’ with increasing levels enthusiasm as she plays around with vocoded voice effects and jittery yet luscious stop-start melodies.
