Kate Middleton’s Newest Portrait Draws Criticism

Posted on the 10 June 2024 by Sandeep Malik

A fresh depiction of Kate Middleton, the Princess of Wales, was revealed on Wednesday, aiming to showcase the resilience and grace of the princess. However, reactions to the portrait online were diverse, mirroring the recent response to a portrait of King Charles III, Catherine’s father-in-law.

This particular portrayal of Prince William’s spouse was commissioned by Tatler Magazine as part of their series featuring members of the royal family. Unveiled as the July 2024 cover, the portrait sparked discussions across social media platforms.

Reportedly, the painting drew inspiration from Kate’s appearance at the inaugural state banquet of Charles’ reign in November 2022, during which she adorned herself in a Jenny Packham gown. Noteworthy were the accessories she chose: a bracelet once worn by the late Queen Elizabeth II and drop earrings originally belonging to Princess Diana.

Tatler asserts that Kate herself did not sit for the portrait. Instead, the task fell to Hannah Uzor, a British-Zambian artist, who meticulously examined thousands of photographs of the princess to capture her essence.

Uzor has emphasized her intention to portray Kate authentically, delving into her innermost expressions and essence. In a video shared by Tatler, Uzor elaborates on her process, highlighting the challenge of understanding Kate without ever meeting her in person.

Despite these efforts, critiques flooded the comments section of the Instagram post, with many expressing disappointment in the portrayal, claiming it failed to do justice to Kate Middleton’s beauty.
