Kate Middleton’s Latest Portrait Receives Criticism Online

Posted on the 23 May 2024 by Jitender Sharma

A new portrait of Kate Middleton, Princess of Wales, was unveiled on Wednesday. While it entirely aimed to highlight the survival and dignity of the princess, it received mixed responses online. It has only been a week since a portrait of King Charles III, Catherine’s father-in-law, received similar reactions online.

Notably, this portrait of Prince William’s wife was specially produced by Tatler Magazine as part of the portraits of members of the royal family. It was posted on social media as the July 2024 cover of the magazine.

It is claimed that the painting takes inspiration from Kate’s appearance in November 2022 at the first state banquet of Charles’ reign. There, she donned a Jenny Packham gown. The princess paired it with a bracelet belonging to the late Queen Elizabeth II and drop earrings that the late Princess Diana originally owned.

Tatler also claims that Kate was not present for the portrait. Instead, the person behind it, Hannah Uzor, who is a British-Zambian artist, went through Kate’s thousands of photos to “capture her likeness.”

Not only this, Uzor also said that her main motive was to capture Kate’s real expressions through her painting and dive deeper into her soul.

In a video shared by Tatler, Uzor states,

She created this portrait without ever meeting the future queen. Uzor added,

It has been really interesting for me to get a sense of who she is,

Meanwhile, people filled the Instagram post’s comment section with criticism. They said that the portrait is just awful and in no way resembles or captures the beauty of Kate Middleton.
