Bengaluru: As the 10th Council test began in Karnataka, a student in Hubballi Regency the country was rejected because she was wearing a burqa and was allowed to appear for paper papers only after she returned, had turned into a school uniform.
Authorities said he was given extra time to change his clothes and remove the burqa.
“He came to his exam in a civil dress. He did not follow the code dressed in uniform and wearing the burqa. We convinced him that he had to follow the orders of the High Court. He changed and he took the exam now,” a senior said the government official Dharwad Mohan Kumar.
However, in a similar incident in Bagalkot Regency, a student chose to skip the exam when asked to get out of his burqa.
With a secondary school exam starting on Monday, the Karnataka ministers said anyone who violated the ruling of a high court in the hijab would not be allowed to write a test.
According to Interior Minister Araga Jnanendra, anyone who violates the rules will face action.
“Anyone who violates the rules will face action. We will not compromise. Everyone must obey the high court order. Students must remove the hijab and write the exam,” Jnanendra said.
Minister of Premier Education and Secondary BC Nagesh also echo the same sentiment.
“The police will naturally take action against anyone who violates the government’s rules. I am sure that no child will provide opportunities for such things,” he said.
He asked students to face the test with confidence without fear.
More than 8.74 lakh students have registered to appear for examinations in more than 48,000 halls at 3,440 centers in all states. The last examination is on April 11.
However, some Muslim girls have threatened to “boycott” exam in protest, the PTI news agency reported.
The Karnataka High Court has ruled earlier this month that the hijab is not an important religious practice and everyone must comply with the dress code set by their school or college.
The Chairman of the Minister of Bumavaraj Bommai also said that everyone had to write the tenth standard exam and forward it.
“I hope that it will be successful for all students. This is an important examination. Given Covid-19, we have made all these year settings for a smooth test behavior. It is our desire that everyone will appear for the exam and forward it and form their future Bright, “Bommai told reporters.
