What would you do with $ 9 million? Buying a villa or a superyacht? Pay off the mortgages of your loved ones? Do you donate a million each to your nine favorite charities?
Musician Kanye West decided to use all of the money for the presidency. It received approximately 60,000 votes in the 12 states where it was actually on the ballot, which is approximately $ 150 (£ 115, AU $ 206) per vote. This does not apply to written votes for West or the votes he received in California, where he was elected as a vice-presidential candidate.
The Federal Elections Commission's report on West's candidacy shows that West himself loaned his campaign $ 10 million (£ 7.6 million, AU $ 13.7 million), $ 1 million (£ 760,000, Jan. , AU $ 3M) in donations and ended up with about $ 1.1M (£ 760,000; AU $ 1.5M) left.
Of the states where he was elected (Arkansas, Colorado, Idaho, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisiana, Minnesota, Mississippi, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Utah, and Vermont), the rapper did best in Tennessee, receiving more than 10,000 votes . None of the states in which West appeared is one of the battlefield states that will still count their votes in an exciting presidential race until Thursday afternoon.
In California, West was next to the American Independent Party candidate, Roque De La Fuente, as a vice-presidential candidate on the ballot. The duo received 0.3 percent of the vote in California, more than 34,000 votes, but of course that doesn't add to West's presidential fee. Newsweek reports that neither West nor De La Fuente have been consulted on this pairing - the party simply put it together.
West tweeted a video apparently casting his ballot in Wyoming, leaving the rest of the ballot blank except writing on his own behalf for the president and that of "personal life and spiritual coach" Michelle Tidball as vice president. He said it was the first time he voted.
West shared controversial opinions assumed in a Forbes interview that he was against vaccinations. He also suggested that people with "the devil in them" want to "put chips in us".
West's presidential dreams are not over yet, however. On Wednesday, he tweeted a photo of himself in front of a US card with the words "KANYE 2024."
