The Original version of Justice League hit theaters in 2017 after Snyder stepped down during the editing process to deal with his daughter's death. Joss Whedon did the editing and re-recording, but the 120-minute film that was released was slammed by critics and disappointed at the box office.
Following this, a social media campaign to release Snyder's much longer version took off, casting members like Gal Gadot (Wonder Woman), Henry Cavill (Superman) and Jason Momoa (Aquaman) threw their support behind. Last May, Snyder announced that it would hit HBO Max in 2021.
In December, Warner Bros. took an unprecedented move by announcing that HBO Max would do so stream all of his 2021 movies Each film hits US theaters the same day at no extra charge, but remains on service for one month. The time limit does not apply to the Snyder Cut, but to James Gunn's upcoming DC film The suicide squad (which lands in August).
