Just One More Day For 2014 RHS Chelsea Flower Show

By Simon Crowther @prestigeflower

This year, the Chelsea Flower was extended from 4 days to 5.  This is obviously great news for visitors and exhibitors alike.  With the final day taking place on a Saturday, it really gives everyone a chance to attend.  In particular, those who were unable to make it during the week.  While the show gardens are often the talk of the town, don’t forget to check out the fantastic displays of floristry at its finest.

RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2014

The florists have poured their hearts and souls into coming up with the most breathtakingly beautiful floral arrangements.  Not only are these bouquets great to look at, but they can prove to be the source of new and exciting ideas for other local florists visiting the show.  Floristry is a lot like the fashion industry in that it involves a careful design process and it is essential to constantly add to your portfolio by coming up with new ideas.  The Chelsea Flower Show is the perfect place for young and experienced florists to show off their best skills in an effort to impress the judges.

One particular exhibit that has visitors quite surprised is the “Butterfly Effect” experience.  This display is part of a bigger initiative called “Our Planet” and it is aimed at environmental education.  What makes this display so different from the rest is the fact that it is the shows first medal winning display that does not include any plants or flowers.  Instead, visitors enter a room with a wrap-around screen that takes them on an eye-opening 3D journey.  While most people are generally uninterested in learning about the dangerous changes to our environment, this display has managed to attract countless visitors.  The founder of One Planet, Sarah Rosenthal-Almirall, admitted that she knew there might be a debate regarding their display and it may prove challenging to judge.

Make the most of the final day at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show and plan your visit to include a balance of show gardens, fresh flower displays and this amazing digital show.
