Junkers Ju 52/3m

@ Speyer, Germany

December 2022

The Speyer Technik Museum is among the best aviation museums in Europe, and I was fortunate to visit the collection again.  Designed in 1930, the Ju 52 combined rugged construction with easy maintenance and reliability, and was the standard Lufthansa airliner throughout the 1930s.  One Ju 52 even served with the US Army Air Force, designated as a C-79 (42-52883). Over 4,800 Ju 52 were manufactured from 1931 to 1952 by Germany, France and Spain.  This example, built in 1936, is considered the oldest airworthy Ju 52 in existence.
