Dear Luke and Leia,
We are off to jump the pond and land in Dublin as a start of a 6 week tour of Europe. The cool thing is the first 10 days are driving around Ireland with your uncle Jimmy. First on the list is the fantastic city of Dublin, the capital of Ireland.

Exploring the streets of Dublin
When we first hit the streets of Dublin it was fabulous, getting a strong sense of belonging, the feeling that we are home now. Jimmy denied any other ancestry other than his Irish heritage and the lively streets, beautiful flowers everywhere did nothing more than to enhance the overall feeling of home. Of course the Irish pubs went a long way to convince Jimmy that Ireland was where he belonged.

Enjoying the many street performers
Music filled the streets of the Temple Bar area as a wide variety of street performers offered their talents to those who would make the time to enjoy them. There were soloists on violins, chalk artists and even groups of youngsters serving up selections and always appreciating a few euro in return for your enjoyment. Some even dressed the part while strumming away on the guitar.
Dublinia Museum
Dublinia History Museum was among our first stops to gain a knowledge of the Viking and Medieval periods of Dublin. Located in Synod hall, a part of Dublin’s Christ Church Cathedral, Dublinia walked us back in time to understand the rough beginnings of both Dublin and Ireland in general. We experienced the times by trying on some gear, an metal head covering that was surprising weighty.

Next we headed over to Christ Church Cathedral, considered the spiritual heart of Dublin, to enjoy the Gothic/Romanesque beauty of the church founded in 1030. Christ Church Cathedral is one of only two remaining medieval cathedrals with the other being St. Patrick’s Cathedral. It was quite an impressive display of architecture and design.

But of course there would be no Ireland without the reputation of the adult beverage establishments, Irish pubs. Jimmy had his list, well prepared in advanced and even mapped out for us to enjoy. One place had a surprise waiting in the men’s room, but the greatest joy for Jimmy was a visit to the Guinness Storehouse.
Guinness Storehouse
Getting a chance to understand all the careful work that goes into making a good Guinness Irish Stout is the goal of the museum. How to make the perfect beer with just the right amount of quality ingredients and the perfect timing of the brew masters are taught in the Storehouse. Well, let’s face it, you have to go through the museum and discovery centers to get to the top where you enjoy the prize, a perfect Guinness Stout with a spectacular view of Dublin.
