-- The first modern comic book was Famous Funnies, released in the US in 1933. It was a reprinting of earlier newspaper humor comic strips. The term comic book comes from American comic books once being a compilation of comic strips. Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster introducted Superman in 1938, turning comic books into a major industry, and so began the Golden Age of Comics. Source
