The sky was striated with deep grays, bolstered by blankets of warm white. There was rain on the way, but there was also a little one in need of a walk. On we went, taking the grays and eventually the raindrops in stride. Anyone who saw the wet pup and the drenched girl, from their dry windows, would have looked on us with a dose of sympathy or pity, but I was exactly where I wanted to be. Looking up at the wet sky, every raindrop fell in slow motion. It was one of those rare moments of summer in which time freezes, and a memory is preserved like a summer peach saved for a future winter day. It was refreshing.
Refreshing Cucumber Watermelon Juice
Ingredients
makes ~2 quarts
half a medium, seedless watermelon (rind removed)
2 organic, English cucumbers, peeled
fresh mint
Directions
Combine the watermelon and cucumbers according to your juicer’s instructions. Serve cold with sprigs of fresh mint.
