Juice of the Week: Greens & Pears & Disengagement

By Withthegrains @WithTheGrains

May 2014

Precisely when Matt Saracen was telling his dad to go to hell, thunder roared, lightning flared in the distance, and my Netflix ceased to stream.

The internet died.

My wifi remained comatose for a day and a half while I waited, stubbornly resisting that dreaded call to Verizon’s elevator music. This internet blackout excused me from emails and caused to me to take a cold, hard look at the ways I use my time.

I scanned my apartment for analog inspiration, and I saw excess in various nooks and crannies. I began to purge and re-curate my collections. At the end of the night, I felt lighter, breathed a little deeper and for once in my life, went to bed at a decent hour. It was so refreshing and satisfying, and I only missed Matt Saracen just a teeny bit.

Green Juice and Florals

Drinking fresh juice in the morning is a way to revive and replenish the body. My new goal is to consider the same level of hydration for my mind. “You are the steward of your own potential” is a quote I read recently from this book, and it’s time I be a more conscientious steward.

What do you do to unplug and rejuvenate?
