Jollibee's seasonal Tuna Pie is back just in time for the start of the Lent. In case you didn't notice, the fast-food giant brings back their famous Tuna Pie before the season of reflection and preparation for Easter begins.
I think I was in college when this pie was released. Growing up in a strict Catholic family, I would observe fasting and abstinence. This simply means we do not eat red meat on all Fridays. Since I was studying at that time, Jollibee Tuna Pie became my go-to meal when I get hungry.
I loved it then and still love it now. Their classic Tuna Pie is savoury and peppery; not to mention, the crust is flaky and lovely. And now, it's back in the menu! But this time it brought another version of himself/herself (?).
The Jollibee SPICY Tuna Pie was released on February 10. When this came out, I was interested but wasn't fully on board yet. You see, there was a time spicy food didn't bother me. I can eat it with no problem. But because of that stupid "Spicy Noodle" challenge, I think my tongue was traumatised as I couldn't take SPICY food anymore.
So I decided to do a little research and asked my fellow bloggers how it was. The Pickiest Eater In The World said, "The heat isn't overwhelming. It just adds a nice kick." Eats A Smal World also said the same thing.
The Pies
Since I was at work, I decided to order via Jollibee Delivery. I got some Buko Pie and my ultimate favourite, Peach-Mango Pie as well. I also initially ordered the classic Tuna Pie but sadly, it wasn't available.
So later that day, I passed by the nearest Jollibee and that's when I found out that Jollibee Spicy Tuna Pie is not only available for a solo (PHP45) but as a trio (PHP132) as well. The good thing about this trio pack is you can pick how many classic or a spicy version of Tuna Pie you want.
The Taste
The spiciness of this new variant is not too overwhelming. It is quite delicious but honestly, I prefer the classic one. The classic is already peppery giving you a slight kick which I enjoy. But of all the Jollibee pies, Peach-Mango is still my number one choice and then the classic Tuna Pie comes next!
Now don't let my review get you down. If you love spicy food and if you want to give this a try, then go for it. The CLASSIC and SPICY Tuna Pies are now available in all Jollibee stores.
Happy eating!
