With Joe Manganiello’s film Magic Mike coming out May 11th, one has to wonder just what it’ll be like seeing him play a stripper. People Magazine wondered the same thing and asked him all about it when he was in New York for the IWC Boutique opening. The actor, who plays Alcide Herveaux on True Blood, admits it was a challenge especially when it came to dancing in a thong:
“It was uncomfortable at first. It sort of felt like a wedgie,” he said, “but once you get into the routine of wearing one, you know what to do and you just do your thing. We all had to suffer a bit for our craft. ”I have so much respect for all women who choose to wear them. It’s not easy wearing one.”
Joe also stated that thankfully it wasn’t difficult to strip down in front of his co-stars Channing Tatum, Alex Pettyfer, and Matthew McConaughey who all had to take turns doing the same thing. But that doesn’t mean he’s keen to have his parents watch him do his routine on screen. In fact, Joe admits he told them not to go see it! Even his publicist didn’t know what to say when she saw it:
“My publicist saw it and couldn’t form a sentence afterwards. Anybody who knows me is going to definitely see me in a different light. My character’s name is Big Dick Richie for a reason.”
