Joe Manganiello may play the strong and caring werewolf Alcide Herveaux on True Blood. But Joe knows his real place on the show–the meat. Speaking to the United Kingdom Press Association, the Pittsburgh native said that his character’s appearence told him a lot about what kind of a role he would play in the show:
“As soon as I started reading the scripts and saw the way my character was described, I thought, ‘Man, I’m definitely going to be the piece of meat on this show.”
It also meant that he would be playing in very little clothing, going on to revea
“But that’s the process of the show, it’s 110 per cent. You look at the script and think, ‘They want me to do what? This is insane!’ And then you throw yourself into it.”l that the first time he transformed into a wolf, he was completely naked. But that’s part of what makes True Blood what it is:
Joe spent nearly 5 months training in order to get the right look for Alcide, even though he was never a jock growing up due to his sensitive side. But he wasn’t exactly an artist either:
“The athletes were dumb and the artists hung out on street corners, wearing Slayer T-shirts and smoking. I was somewhere in this limbo place between.”
Joe will be making a return to the small screen next month in Two and a Half Men and he’ll return to Alcide when production on True Blood season 5 begins at the end of November.
