Joe Manganiello in Magic Mike

Biting into a role like Big Dick Richie in this summer’s steamy male stripper movie, Magic Mike, wasn’t very intimidating for Joe Manganiello. As Alcide Herveaux on True Blood, Manganiello is used to – and comfortable with – taking his clothes off. And, if you haven’t seen him work his magic in Magic Mike yet, you will not be disappointed with Manganiello’s moves, or the opportunity to check out how he got the name Big Dick Richie.  Manganiello recently sat down with People TV to talk about stripping, his sexy roles, and what his parents think of his most recent projects. You can watch the entire discussion here, and check out some of the highlights below.

On his parents checking out his work:

“My parents haven’t seen the film yet, but I’ll know if they saw it by the awkward staring at the ground. They notoriously don’t talk about the sexualized stuff that I do at work, which is good cause that’s just an awkward conversation. But, my dad is really proud that his son is Big Dick Richie. I think any father would be…”

On attending stripper boot camp:

“Male stripping is pretty basic. There’s like three moves that you do and then you just dry hump girls in chairs.”

On the Magic Mike set versus the True Blood set:

“When romantic scenes happen [on True Blood], it’s a closed set, which is a stark contrast to the cast and crew on Magic Mike, which is about as grimy as it gets. It was a completely open set and everybody was welcome. I mean, if you could pass through the metal detector you could probably come in off the street and stand in the back if you wanted to.”

Magic Mike is in theaters now and True Blood season 5 episode 4 airs tonight on HBO.
