I love a good ole down to earth beachside kiwi wedding!!! Gorgeous couple Jess and Rory didn’t let a little bit of rain dampen their wedding day and it looks like it was loads of fun for everyone involved.
Beautifully captured by the talented team over at The Official Photographers this wedding has loads of inspiration for a laid back kiwi wedding that is affordable and eco-friendly (check out the cool plates and cutlery!). Mmmm and who can go past a simple kiwi feast of buns and coleslaw with a bucket load of tomato sauce! Wish I was there!
How did your love story begin?
Rory an I both went to the same school but he was older than me so I didn’t really know him. I had been driving out to my mums and on the side of the road are these two boys hitch hiking. So I pulled over and asked what they were doing. Turns out they had missed their ride to rugby and it was the semi finals. How could I say no! Haha so I took them to Paeroa, and so the story begins!
Why did you say ‘YES’?
I knew he was the one, he was my best friend so it wasn’t really me saying “yes” it was more me saying “when?”
What was your budget?
I didn’t really have a budget, but we didn’t want to spend to much money but we didn’t make it a factor when making decisions.
What was your inspiration or theme for the day?
We wanted to have a low key, party type wedding. Where our guests could relax and have a good time. Then the theme just flowed from my mine and my bridesmaids discussions and pinning marathons on Pinterest.
What were your Save & Splurge items?
We saved money where we could with things such as the food my mom and friend made it all days before which cut down costs. We chose to do quite an Eco wedding using palm leave plates and disposable wooden cutlery. Sourcing. We both agreed that we would spend the money on having a great photographer. This I would really recommend as when it’s all over photos and memories are all you have left.
What music did you play for those special moments?
When I was walking down the aisle playing was “Feel so close” by kelvin Harris, when signing “hey ho” by the lumineers and then when we were mr and mrs it was “be mine tonight”
In hindsight, is there anything that you would have done differently?
There is nothing that I would’ve done differently! Unless you could control the weather and make your day and night last longer.
What advice would you give to future brides to be?
Don’t sweat the small stuff! If it rains, let it rain! At the end of the day your getting married today! And it will be the best day ever!
What do you love most about being a MRS?
I love how we are a complete family now – me, my son and Rory all have the same last name. (feels like I’m not the odd one out now)
