Alex TrebeckThe legacy of is still alive. The game show host, who died of pancreatic cancer on Sunday, November 8, had a powerful impact on Peril! winner Burt Thakur.
And that's exactly what the contestant told Trebeck in an episode that aired Thursday, November 5.
When Trebeck asked him if he had a family watching him on the show, Thakur became emotional.
"You know, here's a true story. I grew up... I learned English because of you," Thakur told Trebek, tears in his eyes. "My grandfather, who raised me - I'm going to have tears now - I used to sit on his lap and look at you every day. So it's a pretty special time for me, man. Thank you so much.
After his Peril! victory, Thakur expressed his gratitude for Twitter, writing Nov. 5, "Winning something money can't buy was an indescribable experience. Entering such a diverse contest makes me proud to be an immigrant and #American. If you looked at me, take some. you a little bit of my smile and my joy and share that with someone? we could all use one [smile.]"
