Jean Dujardin, the French actor with the killer smile who plays the lead role in Oscar frontrunner The Artist, has edged ahead of George Clooney (The Descendants) in the betting markets to be crowned best actor.

Whether he win the gong or not, Dujardin looks set to land big Hollywood film roles in 2012. But it seems he’s not gotten too big for his boots just yet. Dujardin has made a comedy sketch for US site Funny or Die in which he (lightly) sends up his own meteoric rise.

In the sketch, Dujardin attends a meeting with sycophantic US agents who point out: “You know what a lot of European actors do once they get their big American break? They play a villain in a big action movie.” Dujardin responds by auditioning for a shed-load of villainous roles, some of which are pretty ridiculous. To the delight of the agents, he lands an unmanageable 50 bad guy roles.

Talented, handsome, brimming with Gallic charm and now proving he’s funny even when it’s not a silent film … It’s a miracle we still like Jean Dujardin,” joked The Week.
